Artist Statement

I AM an Abstract Painter with a love and fascination for outsider and primitive art. I received a BFA from the Ohio State University but I've leaned mostly about being an artist from other artists, looking at all kinds of art and experimenting, trying to step out of the ‘art box' and enjoying the hell out of just doing art.

I don't, typically, have a plan or vision when I start a new piece, other than just laying down paint or pencil or charcoal or ink, anything I can use to see what might happen. It’s exciting to watch paint dribble down and cascade across a piece of paper or canvas, fun to see what happens when two colors come together or to mix and layer materials, playing with space and perspective, letting the painting figure what it wants to be.

Some of my early influences have been abstract artists, like Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell, Lee Krasner, Helen Frankenthaler, Elaine de Kooning these are women who have inspired and push me to make art every day.
